The logo of the IESO 2025, hosted in Ji’ning, China, is a thoughtful blend of design elements that encapsulate the spirit of Earth sciences while honoring the cultural heritage of Ji’ning, the hometown of Confucius. Each aspect of the logo has been carefully crafted to reflect the event’s theme and its unique connection to this historic location. This logo and its derivatives (such as medals and the championship trophy) were all designed by Ms. Hou Xinyu.

- Color Palette:
The logo features a harmonious blue and green color scheme, symbolizing lush mountains and pristine waters—the essence of Earth’s natural beauty. The mountain peaks incorporate a warm golden or earthy yellow tone, representing the wisdom and legacy of Confucius, a key cultural symbol of Ji’ning. - Circular Shape:
The overall circular design represents the shape of the Earth, emphasizing the global perspective of the IESO and its focus on planetary sciences. - Green Mountains:
The green mountains symbolize geology, a fundamental component of Earth sciences, reflecting the importance of understanding Earth’s structure and history. - Technological and Traditional Bamboo Scroll Lines:
The thin, light-blue lines at the top of the logo evoke a sense of technological innovation while also resembling traditional Chinese bamboo scrolls, bridging modern science with ancient Chinese wisdom. - Blue Waters:
The blue section of the logo represents oceans and hydrology, highlighting the significance of water in Earth systems. - Stellar Reflections:
Stars are reflected in the water, symbolizing astronomy and humanity’s connection to the cosmos. The inclusion of 18 stars signifies this being the 18th edition of the IESO, further linking the celestial theme to the event’s identity. - White Ribbon and the “Kong” Character:
A white ribbon-like element flows through the center of the logo, resembling the wind, which represents meteorology. This element also forms the shape of the Chinese character “孔” (“Kong”), symbolizing Confucius and his cultural influence in Ji’ning. The flowing shape and the font evoke a sense of traditional Chinese calligraphy, further reinforcing the cultural significance of the host city.
The medals and championship trophy for this IESO are also designed based on the logo. Below are the conceptual designs of the medals and trophy; the final appearance may vary slightly from the actual items.
